Lady Gaga rallies her “Lil Monsters”

This post to me encapsulates the power of brand, reach, influence, and social media. Lots of employers and leading brands could learn from pop star Lady Gaga.

Love her or not, there is no mistaking that Gaga has a very strong, unique brand and an enormous fan base. With over 18 million Lil Monster fans on Facebook, Gaga is the most popular living person on the platform.

Gaga also has a lot of influence. She is currently on a political crusade, urging the US military to repeal ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ (DADT) and her Lil Monsters are rallying big time. DADT is the common term for the policy restricting the United States military from efforts to discover or reveal closeted gay, lesbian, and bisexual service members or applicants, while barring those who are openly gay, lesbian, or bisexual from military service.

Gaga and her fans are fervently using social media (eg Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube) - and the telephone - to reach Senators. According to Gaga, Senator John McCain is attempting to stop the DADT repeal vote on September 21, with a filibuster, a way to obstruct the Senate Floor from discussing or voting on a given Law. McCain has previously been quoted as saying “I think it’s really going to be very harmful to the morale and effectiveness of our military.”

Gaga asked her fans to call their senators before Monday, Sept. 20 and ask them to vote to repeal DADT on that day’s senate vote. Check out the fans rallying on YouTube - in my opinion, this is quite powerful stuff.
